Nose in a Book Club has declared a “state of emergency”

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

After three club nights with only two or three members in attendance, our book club seems to be in danger of becoming extinct.  How appropriate it is that our new junior member chose City of Ember by Jeanne Duprau for this month’s book selection.  Please send your ideas, suggestions, and feedback before our lights go out!

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows

Friday, February 20th, 2009

Per a member’s recommendation, in March we will be reading this fine new novel.  Amazon has the scoop on it, just click on the picture below.  See you all March 4 at 7:00 p.m. (same place). Please bring your own copy… AND a friend!

Oldest Confederate Widow Tells All: A Novel by Allen Gurganus

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

Couple of months have come and gone.  I guess the novels have too.  A few of us started into this one but quit before the finish line.  Let us know what you think!

Support the Big Read

Friday, September 5th, 2008

It was decided at our last meeting that we would like to support the National Endowment for the Arts BIG READ campaign.  During one of the upcoming months we will be reading To Kill A Mockingbird

We also thought it would be fun to attend one of the Orem Library’s Big Read events.  Check out this website and let me know which would be the most interesting to you all: http://www.orembigread.org/programs.html.  They are during the month of September and half of October.

Small in numbers but large in spirit

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

I just returned from our book club meeting and once again we had a small showing, just three of us.  Small or not, though, we had some good conversation and company.  Thanks to our host/hostess once again for making their home so welcoming.

We missed our other faithful members and hope to see you next time.  Meanwhile, have fun reading March by Geraldine Brooks!

Sizzling Summer Reads

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Next week is our first summer meeting.  Same time!  Same place!  Come and enjoy good company.  We have a great summer line-up of books too!

See you there!

Summer Is Over - Let’s Get Started!

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

It’s time to get going with Book Club. We are going to hold it 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 19th at Janet’s home. Bring any books you’ve read this summer and would like to share with the group. (Among other things, I’ve been reading some short stories by O Henry.)

If you’d like to get our next book in advance, just let Janet know by leaving a comment for this entry. We are checking out enough books for everyone from the library, so it won’t cost you anything and the check-out period is long enough that we will have plenty of time to finish the book.

Looking forward to seeing you!

June 07 Book Club Meeting

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

We enjoyed the cool summer evening while discussing The Redemption of Sarah Cain. We are going to spend the summer reading more books by some of our favorite authors we’ve read this past year and discover some new ones as well.

Look for the new book club selection in August in preparation for our next meeting: tenatively scheduled for the second Tuesday in September.

We discussed choosing books as a group so that we can perhaps branch out a little in our book selection and feel free to talk more candidly about the books we read as a group. [categorize these posts under ‘group book suggestions’] A good place to start is checking out the titles under ‘LIBRARY RESOURCES.’

Also, PLEASE let us know what books you have read or are reading now so that those of us who have the time can read them too. [categorize these posts under ‘FAVS’]

Let’s make this a fun, informative resource for all of us who love to read good books.
